A unique optic development led to an interesting opportunity to launch an innovative product in the office lighting application space.

Project Brief
Ledalite (sub-brand within Signify) developed a unique optical design able to direct 80% illumination downward while lighting 20% upward. This inspired product management to ask design for a new approach. Our team suggested rather than launch a single product, take on a modular direction. Leverage reusable components to give lighting designers flexibility to create unique installations in open office spaces.
From sketches to engineering
The design team worked quickly to ideate on many concepts and variations of form until we landed on an approach that best met  engineering, cost, market, and customer needs. Due to our knowledge of manufacturing we were able to work alongside both mechanical and optical engineering to ensure design integrity.
Emphasis on connection
Through our close collaboration with engineering, the product was successfully launched using a unique modular joinery system that enabled lighting designers to create one of kind designs and continuous installations not typically seen within indoor office spaces.
